What is FSSAI?

FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India which is an organization that governs and monitors the food business in India. It is a kind of self-ruling framework established under the Ministry of Health
Family Welfare, Government of India. The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which is a federate statute associated with food safety and regulations in India. It is reliable for the registering and licensing of the Food Business Operators (FBO) in India and puts down the rules and
regulations for running the food business in India.

Types of FSSAI:-

As a food business owner in India, one will need to have a food license. There are three types of FSSAI that depend upon the type and size of thefood business and its total annual turnover as well.

  • A Partnership Deed or a Certificate of Incorporation or GST Certificate

  • Proof of expected annual turnover - self-attested
  • List of directors with full address and contact details which is mandatory for companies only
  • Food safety management system certificate or a plan (if any)
  • Declaration form
  • Photo ID and address proof that is provided by the Government authority of Partner/Directors/ Proprietor/Authorized signatory
  • Proof of possession of property - sale deed/Rent agreement/electricity bill, etc.
  • Self-declaration/Partnership deed for Articles of Association & proprietorship/Memorandum respecting the constitution of the firm.
  • Form 1X: Nomination of persons by the company with the board resolution.

Documents required for FSSAI License - For Manufacturer/Exporter

  • List of Directors with full address and contact details (mandatory for companies only)
  • IE CODE document issued by DGFT
  • Upload Production unit photograph
  • Undertaking for Exporting FBO
  • Blueprint/layout plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions in metres/square metres and operation-wise area allocation
  • Name and List of Equipments and Machinery along with the number, installed capacity and horse power used
  • Photo I.D and address proof issued by Government authority of Proprietor/Partner/Director(s)/Authoriz ed Signatory.
  • Proof of possession of premises. (Sale deed/ Rent agreement/ Electricity bill, etc.) .
  • Partnership Deed/Self Declaration for Proprietorship/Memorandum & Articles of Association towards the constitution of the firm
  • Form IX: Nomination of Persons by a Company along with the Board Resolution.

When is the renewal of your FSSAI license required?

The validity of the issued license is for 1 to 5 years, so the business should apply for the license renewal 30 days in advance before the expiry of the current license.
